Wealth-X Leverages Recent Data Expansion to Reveal Detailed Global HNW Analysis in New Report
New York, NY – January 16, 2019 – Wealth-X, the leader in applied wealth intelligence, today released the first edition of the High Net Worth Handbook, which provides a global analysis of the world’s high net worth (HNW) population, or those individuals with a net worth of US$1m to US$30m.  The new report reveals that this population rose by 1.9% to 22.4m people in 2018, and is forecast to increase by another 6.2% over the next five years.
The Wealth-X High Net Worth Handbook complements the company’s two existing flagship reports, the World Ultra Wealth Report and the Billionaire Census, to provide a complete analysis of those individuals who comprise the highest tiers of wealth.
According to the Wealth-X High Net Worth Handbook 2019, the number of individuals with net assets of $1m – <$30m totaled 22.4 million in 2018, with a combined net worth of $61.3trn.
In addition to this dramatic rise in population and wealth, the High Net Worth Handbook 2019 uncovers numerous trends among this exclusive population, including:
  • New York is Home to the Most HNW Individuals – while New York saw its HNW population shrink by 0.6% in 2018, with just below a million HNW individuals, the Big Apple still retains a HNW population that is 65% larger than the second city in our top 10, Tokyo.  In addition, six of the top 10 cities in our ranking are in the US.
  • Anticipated Growth in Asia – the Asia-Pacific region is forecast to experience the strongest growth in the number of HNW individuals and combined wealth, with the region’s HNW population projected to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 7.6% over the next five years
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit – Comparing HNW and UHNW populations shows an even larger proportion of self-made HNW individuals – almost nine of every ten
  • A More Equitable Gender Split – The HNW population exhibits a more equitable gender split than the UHNW population but nonetheless remains heavily male dominated
In addition to revealing a global view of the status and trends of the wealthy, the High Net Worth Handbook 2019 also examines the population based on their asset holdings, gender, industry focus, wealth source, education, and hobbies with a special breakdown of sports interest by wealth tier.
The findings of the High Net Worth Handbook 2019 are derived from Wealth-X’s global database of dossiers on high net worth individuals, which provides unrivaled insight into the status of the world’s wealthy, the constantly changing structure of the millionaire population, and the emerging trends for future wealth creation.
