In 1977AD a devotee of Lord Ganesha gave a 1acre land to the Shree Ganesha Trust to construct the temple. After seven years, Smt. Kamalamma and Shri C. L. Lakshmanaraju sponsored the cost for the Panchamukhi idol of Lord Ganesha. On 6th Feb, 1984 the Ganesh Pratisthanapa happened under the guidance of Shri Shri Shri Abhinava Vidyateertha Swami of Sharatha Peetha Shrungeri.

Panchamukhi Ganesha one of the very famous Ganesha temples in Bangalore.

I would like to thank the temple trust members who provided me with the photograph of the idol to put on this blog.

Lalbaug Cha Raja

The Mandal, formerly known as ‘Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, Lalbaug’ was founded in the year 1928, because of a vow (Navas) for construction of the present Lalbaug Market at its existing place. The market place at Peru Chawl was shut down in 1932. Hence, the fishermen and vendors who used to sit in the open place vowed to Lord Ganesh for permanent place for their market. With the consistent efforts & support of the then local Councillor-Late Shri. Kuwarji Jethabhai Shah, Dr. V. B. Korgaonkar, Shri.Nakhawa Kokam Mama, Bhausaheb Shinde, Dr.U.A. Rao and the local residents, the landlord Rajabai Tayyabali agreed to give a plot for construction of a market. As fulfillment of their wish, the fisherman and the traders established the Ganesh Idol on 12.09.1934. The idol was dressed in the customary fashion of fisherman. Since that day onwards, this Lord Ganesh has become popular as it fulfills the wishes of devotees. The Mandal was formed in the era when the freedom struggle was at its peak. Idagunji Ganesh

Idagunji is a sacred place of Hindu worship in Honnavara taluk of Uttara Kannada (North Canara) district in Karnataka. The famous temple at Idagunji dedicated to Lord Ganapati is the main attraction, receiving more than 1 million devotees per year. Idagunji is about 14 kms southeast of Honnavar.

The two handed Ganapati is holding Modaka and Padma (Lotus) in his hands. According to the legend Lord Ganapati stayed in the place Kunjaranya which is now renowned as Idagunji (Idakuñja). It is said to be a place of penance selected by ancient Rishies (Saints).

Anegudde is a village in the Kundapura taluq of Udupi district, India. The village is also known as ‘Kumbashi’ or ‘Kumbhashi’. Here, Lord Ganapathi is also called, ‘Siddhi Vinakaya’ and ‘Sarva Siddhi Pradaayaka’, the provider of all boons. People come here with all kinds of wishes. This is an excellent temple. Name of this Ganesh is ‘Dashbhuja Ganapati’. This ‘Laxmi – Ganesh Temple’ is not only ancient but also rare. This temple may have been erected in the period of Peshwa. The deity has been founded on the top of Mountain. The Ganesh idol has been carved in white stone. Such stones are found in Kashmir region. The specialty of the idol is that this is 3 feet high and it has 10 hands. This majestic idol is on a seat of 2 feet.

The Ganesh Temple is located in Titwala of Thane District. This temple at Titwala is more properly known as the Maha Ganesh temple.

Legend has it that King Dushyant married Shakuntala in the Titwala temple.

It’s believed that original Ganesh idol, was consecrated by the sage Kanva, and disappeared while the adjacent lake was being constructed. The present idol was consecrated by Madhavrao Peshwe.

Popular folklore and belief has it that if one worships the Titwala Maha Ganesh, one gets married to the person one desires. If the Lord is propitiated with all sincerity and strict religious manner, marital conflicts are settled.

Dholya Ganapati, Wai

The temple of Dholya Ganapati is located along the Krishna River. It was built in 1762 by Raja Bhoja of the Shilahar dynasty to protect the town. The idol was consecrated in the year 1769 in the Hindu month of Vaishakh shuddha the 13th. It took then a whopping Rs. 1.5 lakh and 10 years of work to complete this temple.

The temple is made out of finished stone. The inner sanctum is spacious, with a huge hall in the front. A stone floor covers the whole temple. The rear part of the temple is shaped like a fish. This structure proves useful in case of a flood as it protects the temple. The Ganapati idol is carved out of monolith, and is about 10 ft tall and 8 ft wide. The deity is acquired it name Dholya Ganapati from its massive size (In Marathi, Dholya means huge or fat).

The idol faces the east, is seated in a cross-legged position with a broad forehead, with its trunk pointing to the left.

Shri Girijatmaj Vinayak refers to the Ganesh as the son of Parvati. Girija is another name for Parvati and Atamaj means son. This is the only temple of the Ashtavinayak which is on a mountain and is set in a Buddhist cave-temple (also known as known as Ganesh Gufa).

The idol faces north with its trunk to the left, and has to be worshiped from the rear of the temple. This idol can be worshiped by anyone. There is no electric bulb in the temple. The temple is constructed such that during the day it is always lighted up by the sun-rays!

The temple is situated 12 km from Narayangaon, which is about 94 km from Pune on the Pune-Nashik highway. Nearest railway station is Talegaon.

Shree Mayureshvara ( also called as Moreshwara) Ashtavinayak temple is at Morgaon. Morgaon is at the distance of 64 kms from Pune, Maharashtra, next to the river Karha in the village of Moregaon.

The idol of Lord Ganesha, riding a peacock, in the form of Mayureshwara is believed to have slain the demon Sindhu at this spot. The idol, with its trunk turned to the left, has a cobra (Nagaraja) poised over it protecting it. This form of Ganesha also has two other murtis of Siddhi (Capability) and Buddhi (Intelligence).

However, this is not the original idol which is said to have been consecrated twice by Brahma, once before and once after being destroyed by the asura Sindhurasur. The original murti, smaller in size and made of atoms of sand, iron, and diamonds, was supposedly enclosed in a copper sheet by the Pandavas and placed behind the one that is currently worshiped.

The Siddhivinayak Ashtavinayak Temple is at Siddhtek a remote little village along the river Bhima in the Ahmednagar district and Karjat tehsil in Maharashtra.

The deity of this temple is swayambhu, three feet high and two and a half feet wide, facing north. The trunk of the deity is turned towards the right. A Ganpati with the trunk turned to the right is considered to be the dynamic form of Ganpati. The statue is in one corner of a hillock.

Ballaleshvara at Pali is one among the Ashtavinayak (Eight temples of Lord Ganesha in Maharashtra). Ballaleshwar idol is 3 feet high and it faces east and its trunk turns towards the left. The navel and eyes of the idol are studded with precious stones. Lord Ganesh in this aspect appeared as a Brahmin and so this is one of those rare statues where Ganesh is shown wearing clothes as Brahmins do. On both sides of the idol are statues of Riddhi and Siddhi.
